Kalani David’s close friend and his photographer Peter King said that he loves his friend. Only God can understand the timing of this. He continued that life has never been easy; people always fight and learn. It is heartbreaking news. King also said Kalani David had a seizure in Costa Rica while surfing.
Kelly Slater wrote that Kalani David was one of the best skateboarders they had ever known. David was constantly testing boundaries and pushing his limits. They offer their condolences to all their family and friends across the globe.
David suffered his first seizure in August 2016 while skating with friends at a park in Oceanside, California. In August 2016, he had a seizure while surfing in California. Things got worse after that.
Then 18 years old, he later reported on Instagram that he “fell on my face and woke up in an ambulance.” The episode briefly stopped his heart and triggered three more seizures in the hospital. “So grateful to be alive!” David wrote.
During Christmas in 2016, he had a seizure of more than six hours that nearly took his life. He was at home in Oahu. He was in a coma for two days after this incident and underwent surgery in 2017. The episode came on in the middle of the night, and he later posted to Instagram that he was “lucky to even be alive”. They removed extra muscle from his heart that was causing the seizures.

David was born with a surfboard in one hand and a skateboard in the other.

In 2007, he was awarded “PROPS” from Cartoon Network as voted by several hundred thousand online viewers.
He was featured in a one hour special hosted by Olympic Gold Medalist Jonny Moseley. In the special, he was surprised with a visit from legendary skateboarder Bob Burnquist and pro surfer Andy Irons.
In 2008, he won his first NSSA National Surfing title in the Mini Grom division, scoring a perfect 10 in the final. In 2012, he won one of the first of his many major accolades, clinching a gold medal at the ISA World Junior Surfing Championship in Panama.
